Ignatius Chombo fed up with
protests

HOME AFFAIRS minister Ignatius Chombo has
vowed to crush demonstrations countrywide
saying police cannot stand idly and watch
‘hooligans interfere with the rights of other
citizens by looting property in shops,
attacking innocent civilians’ vehicles and
even police officers’.
Chombo said recent anti-Government protests
have been violent.
“Section 219 of the Zimbabwean Constitution
is clear on the ZRP’s mandate to preserve
peace and to protect life and property. The
Police cannot stand idly by while hooligans
interfere with the rights of other citizens by
looting property in shops, attacking innocent
civilians’ vehicles and even police officers”.
Nationwide protests organised by National
Electoral Reform Agenda (NERA) are due to
take place today aimed at forcing the
President Robert Mugabe led government to
level the political playing field ahead of the
2018 elections.
