Causes Rifts
In Zanu PF
Zanu PF Masvingo Province heavyweights
Jeppy Jaboon and Daniel Shumba, walked out
of a party meeting after fellow party members
charged that First Lady Grace Mugabe and
National Political Commissar, Saviour
Kasukuwere were behind the factional wars
killing the party.
Shumba, who is the MP for Masvingo Urban
Constituency and Provincial Secretary Jaboon
left the meeting held at Victoria Primary
School on Sunday in a huff, following what
they felt was a direct attack on Mrs Mugabe.
Having realised that they were outnumbered
in the meeting because the majority of the
provincial members are sympathetic to the
Team Lacoste Camp said to be backing Vice
President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Jaboon and
Shumba quit the meeting after the G-40 was
taken to task for feeding President Robert
Mugabe with lies about party programmes.
A provincial member who spoke to us on
condition of anonymity said the two left the
meeting following what they perceived to be a
direct attack on Mrs Mugabe.
“The two left because their faction is on the
receiving end, especially after President
Mugabe tore into Kasukuwere. Somebody said
that Kasukuwere is being protected by a very
senior woman -as such Shumba and Jaboon
felt the attack was directed at the First Lady
and they left the meeting. They had no option
except to sneak out without apologising ,” the
source told ZimEye.
Shumba however said in his own defense, “I
had to rush to prepare for the Parliamentary
Portfolio Committee on Mines which I happen
to be the chairperson. I did not run away
from the meeting, I do not belong to any
faction because I support President Mugabe.”
